The Workout You Almost Skip

Earlier today I had a conversation with someone at the gym that perfectly captured a mindset most people experience at some point.

They told me they almost skipped their workout.

They were tired, motivation wasn’t really there, and their brain was doing what all of our brains do sometimes — trying to convince them that missing just one workout wouldn’t matter.

But they showed up anyway.

At first they said things felt a little slow. The warm-up wasn’t exciting and the energy wasn’t fully there yet.

Then something changed.

Once the workout got going and the room started filling with energy, they found their rhythm. People around them were working hard, encouraging each other, and pushing through the workout together.

That’s one of the biggest benefits of group training.

Energy spreads.

When you see others working hard, it naturally motivates you to give a little more effort too.

By the end of the session they were glad they came.

Because the alternative is something most people know all too well.

Skipping a workout can feel good in the moment.

But later in the day the thought creeps back in:

“I should have gone.”

“I should have at least done something.”

And you end up beating yourself up about it.

The reality is the solution was simple — show up and move.

In many cases, the workouts we almost skip end up being the ones we’re most proud of completing.

Not because they were the hardest physically.

But because we won the mental battle that almost kept us home.

Sometimes the biggest win in fitness is simply showing up.
